The Goal
The goal is to be the first player to get rid of all 13 cards in your hand.
The Deal
The deck is divided evenly, with each player receiving 13 cards (for a maximum of 4 players), dealt one at a time, face down. Anyone may deal first. Each player picks up their cards and looks at them, keeping them secret from other players.
The Play
The player holding the 3 of Spades must play first. They can play it as a single card, or as part of a combination like a double, triple, or straight (a sequence of 3 or more numbers that cannot include a 2).
Moving clockwise, the next player must either play a higher card or combination of the exact same category, or pass. If you pass, you are locked out of that round and cannot play again until the turn restarts.
If you play a card or combination and everyone else passes, the turn restarts. You clear the pile, and you can start a brand new turn playing any category you want.
If a player throws down a powerful 2, it can be beaten by a "Poison" (either a Four of a Kind, or a Three-Pair Straight). A Poison can only be beaten by a higher Poison of the exact same type.
How to Keep Score
The game ends immediately when one player successfully plays their very last card. That player is declared the winner.
